DR Thomas Redman -  Managing Director

   

As the son of an oil industry pioneer, Dr. Redman grew up in the oil industry and has lived in many of the World’s oil provinces, Australia, Norway, Iran, Libya and the UK. He attended Herriot-Watt University (1993) obtaining an honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and whilst at university, he worked on a number of land rigs, gaining experience in the rig contracting side of the industry. After Herriot-Watt, he went on to complete his doctorate in mathematical algorithms for compression of 3D images at Clare College, Cambridge University.

Following his PhD, Thomas worked for Merrill Lynch PFS preparing the mathematics for exotic commodity derivatives in the City of London for precious metals project finance, which led to developing trading models and managing risk for the derivative portfolio. He was responsible for valuation and presentation of all commodity backed derivative project finance agreements including multiple commodity notes issues. Following Merrill Lynch, he was invited to head up the precious metals commodity derivatives trading desk and commodity backed finance structured transactions for Commerzbank. 

In the late 90’s he was appointed to the board of Midmar Energy (an Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Company) and Firstdrill. In 2001, he moved to the Midmar / Firstdrill group full time and applied his engineering skills to design and installed two onshore production facilities and project managed a number of exploration and development wells. In 2007, he was made Managing Director and has been responsible for obtaining finance to develop the existing fields and leading the licence acquisition plans of the company. Since then he has been responsible for all management, operational and budgetary matters within the group.

 

Peter Redman

Peter Redman -  Director

After studying Mechanical Engineering, Peter joined BP as a Trainee Drilling Engineer in 1955 before being assigned to the Middle East where he worked in the UAE and Oman. During his 24 years with BP he also worked in the UK, Libya, Iran, Australia and Norway. In 1979, he joined Phillips Petroleum Company to work in the North Sea. Since leaving Phillips in 1984 he has worked in numerous operations as Drilling Manager. His experience includes drilling operations in Russia, Azerbaijan, Czech Republic, Georgia, and Bulgaria. He is the author of various technical papers and is an External Examiner for Robert Gordon University MSc course in Drilling Engineering.

 

James Jenner

James Jenner - Non Executive Director

With a career that spans over forty years, 30 years of which were with BP, Jim has extensive experience of drilling operations in the Middle East, North America and the North Sea. He worked on early exploration and development of oil fields offshore Abu Dhabi and the West Sole gas field discovery offshore UK. He has also held senior supervisory positions in Iran and Abu Dhabi. Latterly in management roles with BP he supervised worldwide drilling operations and was responsible for recruitment, training and career development of drilling engineers and operations personnel.

Since leaving BP he has been involved in numerous activities, including drilling operations in Pakistan, Bulgaria, Algeria, Tunisia the Arabian Gulf and the North Sea, and has implemented training courses and worked on the successful introduction of new drilling technology. Jim is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the Energy Institute, Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Mike Hazell

Mike Hazell - Non Executive Director

Mike Hazell has over 35 years experience in the industry. He spent much of his career working with BP where he held various senior drilling positions in the UK, Norway, Canada, USA, Nigeria, Angola and Qatar. He has been involved in the planning and implementation of many diverse drilling projects, both onshore and offshore, including Wytch Farm (ERD) and deep water drilling projects in West Africa. Mike is a chartered Mechanical Engineer and a member of the SPE.
